Camp Boggy Creek
After expenses 100%
of proceeds go to benefit Camp Boggy Creek for Florida's seriously
ill children.
Camp Boggy Creek, is patterned after Paul Newman's
original Hole in The Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, CT. Joining Paul
Newman in the founding of Florida's Camp Boggy Creek are: General H.
Norman Schwarzkopf, Ted Forstmann, Jim & Jan Moran, Gracia
Anderson, David & Francie Horvitz, Lawrence & Florence
DeGeorge, Browne & Juanita Gregg and the Family of Jennifer
Masi.
A Collaborative Effort
From the beginning, Camp Boggy Creek has built
partnerships with hospitals, medical schools, voluntary health
organizations, family support groups and healthcare professionals to
recruit campers, their families and volunteers.
The Medical Facility
The medical presence is purposely kept in the
background so the children can concentrate on filling their days
with all the fun of a good old-fashioned camp experience.
The Medical Center is affectionately know as "The
Patch." It's where our campers go to get "patched up." This 8,000
square foot state-of-the-art facility is designed to be as
non-institutional as possible. It's capable of accommodating the
full array of treatments for the disease groups we serve. Whether
it's a chemotherapy treatment, a dialysis procedure or bandaging a
minor cut, the full time staff, supplemented by volunteer
specialists makes a trip to the doctor fun. There is even an exam
table shaped like a dinosaur! A camp nurse who totes meds in a
tackle box, visits campers who need medications during the day! It
all helps to insure that our Boggy Creek campers have the time of
their lives.
Boggy Creek gives campers a chance to normalize
their lives by being with children battling the same illness.
"Everyone is just the same as me!"
